Dita Charanzová: "Maduro is a dictator who will do everything possible to stay in power"

The vice president of the European Parliament, Dita Charanzová, affirmed that Nicolás Maduro is, simply said, a dictator who will do whatever in his hand to remain governing.

El Político

The European diplomat condemned the arbitrariness committed by the Nicolás Maduro regime in the state of Barinas, related to the alteration of electoral results.

In this regard, the Czech diplomat, a member of parliament since 2014 for the Alliance of Disgruntled Citizens party, described the disqualification of opposition Freddy Superlano as unfair, reported El Nacional.

Nominated by the Democratic Unity Table, the leader won the governorship of Barinas on November 21. He left Argenis Chávez, brother of the late President Hugo Chávez, in second place and put an end to the Chavista dynasty in the state.

The vice president of the European Parliament said that the most important thing is that the Venezuelan opposition is united to confront Maduro. And she affirmed that Juan Guaidó, whom the European Parliament recognizes as the president in charge of Venezuela, is in an extremely difficult situation.

“Maduro es un dictador”

Unfortunately, I am not surprised by what we saw in the November elections, not even in the case of Barinas. It is clear that Maduro is a dictator who will do everything possible to stay in power.

It is clear that the disqualification of Freddy Superlano is unfair and only to prevent him from winning the opposition.

Juan Guaidó was democratically elected and therefore continues to be the legitimate interim president.

The European Union does not recognize Maduro as president or the National Assembly emanating from the fraudulent elections of 2020. Until free and fair presidential elections are held, he must continue the interim presidency.

In all the latest European Parliament resolutions, we continue to recognize Juan Guaidó as interim president. But we have to do more to support him and the democratic forces in difficult times when Maduro is doing everything possible to delegitimize them.

Video in Spanish:

Sanctions are important economically and symbolically. That is why Maduro is desperate for them to get up as soon as possible. But it is true that the latter can be stronger.

The European Parliament has called on several occasions for the sanctions to be extended to family members, but this has yet to be done.

We also ask to sanction the blood gold and also explore other sectors that are important to the regime, without harming the population. I will continue to insist on this.

The most significant tool we have to exert pressure is sanctions, and in the last question, I said that Europe should extend them to family members and sectors important to the regime.

But all recognition and support for democratic forces remain essential, and not just from the European Union. But European countries must do more.
